Maud and Wyvern
Return to the British Isles Page

Region: England
Time Period: Unknown
References in Literature: None
Sources: WaterDragon, Colba

Maud was walking through the forest one day when she spied a tiny creature on the ground. She picked it up and took it home, but her parents recognized it as a wyvern and told her to return it to where she got it.

Instead, she took it to her hiding place and nursed it with milk until it grew up.

Unfortunately, it outgrew milk and started taking animals from the surrounding farms. Eventually, the wyvern was found and the people of the town sent men to attack and kill it. But they always lost and the wyvern would kill and eat the men.

Maud became very distressed and tried reasoning with her friend, but nothing worked. Eventually, Garston, a journeyer, came to the aid of the town and killed the wyvern. Maud was left holding the dying wyvern in her arms, and crying in anguish.
