Beowulf, the hero, engaged in 3 separate battles with dragons: first with the monster Grendel, second with Grendel's mother under the lake, and third with a firedrake.

This last story, with the firedrake, says that the drake could breath fire and grow to almost 50 feet. It was killed while killing Beowulf.
