A Precocious Youth / Slaying of the Dragon King's Son / Drastic Measures
Time Period: Unknown References in Literature: None Sources: Ancient Tales and Folklore of China, Python Below is a summary of the tale found in the book. Note, this story is really long and complicated. This summary does not do it justice. No-cha went to the river to cool off and dipped his magic trousers into it - disturbing the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea. The Dragon-King (Ao Kuang) sent a messenger to find out why and No-cha killed him. Ao Ping, the Dragon King's 3rd Son then confronted No-cha. But No-cha killed him, too, and took his sinews to make a belt. Ao Ping's escort went back to the Dragon King, and the Dragon King went to No-cha's father, Li Ching and Li Ching went in search of No-cha who curtly apologized. The Dragon King, seeing no real remorse, said he would report No-cha to Yu Huang. No-cha went, then, to the home of his master T'ai-i Chen-jen who made him invisible and sent him to wait for the Lung Wang at heaven. When the Lung Wang appeared, No-cha struck him and made him turn into a small blue dragon to be taken back to the master. The dragon escaped, though, by turning into wind. No-cha then went to the castle's walls, and while testing a magic bow, killed a goddess's servant. She came and accused Li Ching who sent his son to apologize. Instead of apologizing, he killed yet another of her servants and she took his many magic items away. He ran back to his master who turned the goddess into stone and told him that the Four Dragon Kings were going to be taking his parents soon. No-cha went in front of his parents and the Dragon Kings and killed himself so that they would be set free. Then he appeared in his mother's dreams, telling her to build him a temple. She did, but when his father found out he destroyed it. No-cha was resurrected by his master, pursued his father, and was finally defeated with the aid of a Taoist. No Cha died for 3 years after fighting the Dragon King at age 7, but he is resurrected. See General Information on Chinese Dragons for more. |
