Below is a summary of the tale found in the book.

Shipwrecked Servant:
Once the Eight Immortals were going to celebrate the birthday of the Hsien Weng and as they walked from the boat, they noticed that their servant had drowned in a sudden typhoon. (Apparently, only Immortals walk on water).
So they went to Ao Ch'in, the Dragon King, for an explanation. Ao Ch'in suspected that his son was guilty of the offense and punished him.
The dragon king's son went to seek revenge on the Immortals.

Battle and Its Results
On seeing the Prince coming, one of the Immortals fashioned a hook and caught the prince.
Ao Ch'in tried to compromise, saying he'd restore the servant with the presents if they'd let his son go. But the couriers convinced Ao Ch'in that the Immortals were insulting him and the battle began.
Eventually, another deity came and took all the combatants' magical powers. Shu' Kuan, Ruler of the Watery Elements, threatened to report Ao Ch'in unless he apologized immediately. He did.
