Temptation / St. Leonard and the Dragon
Time Period: Unknown References in Literature: None Sources: Folklore and Symbolism of Flowers, Plants and Trees, p 68. "According to a French Legend, there lived in 559 AD in the forest of the Vienne Valley, near Limoges, a holy man known as St. Leonard. Having renounces all worldly things, he lived the life of a hermit in the depths of the woods. The dragon Temptation also dwelled there and terrible combats took place between them. The dragon was driven further and further back toward the edge of the forest, until it finally disappeared altogether, leaving the hermit the conquerer." |
