Greece
Ahh, Greece. For such a small country it sure is populated by some very cruel dragon-serpents. Notes:
"Prehistoric sculptures exhumed in Crete show water-demons of queerly changed crocodilian aspect with strange mammilian heads, and distinctly four-legged, which might have served as prototypes of the forms later developed in Western Europe" (Source: Dragons and Dragon Lore pg 45.) Dragon Slayers:
"The great Asiatic giant-and-dragon fighters certrainly contributed something to the legend of Herakles: Marduk, Ninurta, Gilgamesh, Samson, Hupasiyas, Aqhat and Indra, too." (Python: A Study of Delphic Myth and Its Origins pg 322). A dragon is shown flying over Alexander in the great's birth - signifying "divine origin". According to the Delphic Oracle, Olympias conceived Alexander by the god Zeus Ammon disguised as a dragon." (Source - Getty Museum). |
