Time Period: References in Literature: None Sources: Gods, Heros and Myth, Pantheon/articles Hidesato was traveling near Lake Biwa and passed a serpent without disturbing it. The serpent was really the Dragon King who had a task for the first person who would do just that. Hidesato accepted the Dragon King's challange. In the mountains of Japan, near the Lake Biwa, lived a terrifying, man-eating monster the size of a mountain called the Centipede. He created much havoc in the lives of the people, and they called to the dragon king of the lake for help. The dragon king asked the famous hero Hidesato to kill it for him. The hero slew it by shooting an arrow, dipped in his own saliva, into the brain of the monster. The dragon king rewarded Hidesato by giving him a rice-bag which could not be emptied and which fed his family for centuries. The dragon king also gave Hidesato a roll of silk that never ended, a cooking pot the needed no fire, and a bell hidden under a lake. |
