What follows is a summary of tale #35 found in the book.

One day a dragon emerged from his home, and while sunning, was pounced upon by a tengu. The tengu wasn't expecting to pick up a dragon so he took the dragon back to his lair and stuffed him in a small hole. The dragon couldn't break out since he had no water to fly with.

A few days later, the tengu was out scouting for a monk, spied one, and picked him up so suddenly that the monk didn't even drop his jug of water.

The tengu went back to his lair. He put the monk in with the dragon and off he went again

Back in the hole, the monk and dragon came up with a plan of escape. The monk turns his jug over and lets the last drop fall on the dragon. The dragon then turns into a boy, and, carrying the monk, breaks out of their prison.

After dropping off the monk, the dragon went in search of the tengu and killed it.
