Return to the Religious Dragons Page

Region: Babylon, Christian
Time Period: BC
References in Literature: Old Testament
Sources: Giants, Monsters and Dragons pg 352, "CT 13.33-34 and Ezekiel 32: lion-dragon myths", see Below

Notes:
  • Sea serpent or dragon of great length and power
  • 7 heads and feet.
Tale 1:

After killing the dragon, King Cyrus and the people demanded Daniel be thrown into the lion's den as punishment.

Tale 2:

In another tale involving the Tannin, Yahweh fights and kills it in Ezekiel 32, although this battle is overshadowed by Yahweh's battle with Yamm, Leviathan, and Mot. Interestingly enough, though, the battle is similar to Marduk's battle with Tiamat in the size of the body and overall description of battle.

Tale 3:

Anat (and Baal) also kills a dragon named tannin in Ugarit myths
