Tale:

Is said to be coiled partially around a massive hoard. But the hoard was so massive, it could not go completely around, leaving a slight gap.

A man from the local town heard this and decided to take advantage. He sneaked into the hoard, stealing pocket-fulls of gold. But as he looked around, he wanted more and called for his friend to climb up and help him.

The dragon heard the call and woke up roaring. The man dropped all that he had gathered and ran. The dragon then sank with his hoard into the ground, never to be seen again.

Variations:
  • The dragon wakes when the farmer yells to his wife
  • The farmer bumps into the dragon's tail.
