  • Alchemists call it the Spirit of Fire essential to convert into gold
  • In heraldry, figure is in flames
  • Produces "Salamander's Wool", a fire resistive fabric
  • Thought to reside in fire and flames, including home hearths.
Description:
  • Small, 4 feet, spots
  • Extinguishes flame with its cold

  • Was eventually associated with witches through fire, and some witches could transform into salamanders to escape the flames.
