Characteristics:
  • Reside only in fresh or salt water
  • Spend most of their lives in freshwater lakes and streams, and will occasionally migrate to warmer waters when necessary.
Description:
  • Is occasionally mistaken for masses of sea kelp or huge squid
Associations / Symbolism:
Origins and Historocity:
  • Featured on old maps in regions labeled "Here Be Dragons"
  • This dragon may have originated with sightings of the Basilosaurus, a dinosaur with a long body, short neck and sharp teeth that occasionally surfaced near boats. Other sightings may have been long lines of porpoises that come up for air in a wave-like motion that resembles a serpent. Most common and consistent are sightings of giant squid since the body types, locations, and adversarial relationship with the whale - all of which are consistent with various sightings of sea serpents
